The project goal was to create an electronic device to solve a household problem.
User research lead me to understand the problems with organizing and synthesizing to-do lists, calendars, grocery lists, appointments, and event reminders within the home. This is especially a problem in a family household or with multiple roommates. There needed to be a way to bridge the gap between their physical and digital worlds to get everyone on the same page.
Housemate was designed to do just that; to create a simple way for individuals and groups to stay connected and knowledgeable about times, lists, and events. Housemate is a way to create a sense of community within a household.
It is a small, physical device that acts as the main hub that mounts to your refrigerator, by the front door, or any communal meeting area in your house. Facial recognition software, your homes wi-fi network, and a multi-touch screen allows multiple users to sign in and sync with their various social media and bank accounts to keep everyone updated, pay the bills, and coordinate household tasks. Housemate will send push notifications to connected devices allowing you to easily communicate any needs, updates, events or just to send a funny drawing. Housemate helps you to know what is on the grocery list, what everyones schedule is, and provides reminders of your weekly events. It organizes multiple calendars, chore schedules, to-do lists, notes, and events in one place.
