Essie
The project goal was to create a stovetop espresso machine that emulates a brand whose product line does not currently contain kitchenwares.
Designers David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim created a line of designer plush and vinyl toys called Ugly Doll. With my espresso machine project, I incorporated a similar design aesthetic as Ugly Doll by balancing two contrasting characteristics; where Ugly Doll employ the contrast between cuteness and perceived ugliness, I chose to contrast an earnest demeanor and playfulness. The toys bright colors and smooth lines lent well to creating a playful espresso machine.
